Plot Summary
Bai Ga is a 2024 Marathi comedy film that revolves around Dhanush (played by Swwapnil Joshi), a man facing marital troubles with his wife Aboli (Prarthana Behere) in England. When Dhanush asks God for help, he learns that the reason for his unhappy marriage is that he mistreated his wives in his past five lives. As penance, God tasks Dhanush with making amends to these wives from his previous incarnations, who start arriving one after the other in the present day.
Use of Past Life Concept
The film uses the concept of past life as a central plot device. Dhanush’s five wives from his previous births appear before him in modern times, and he must now rectify the mistakes he made with them in those past lives in order to have a happy marriage in this life.
The wives are portrayed as having distinct personalities and accents based on their eras, with their costumes also varying to match the different time periods. Dhanush has to navigate the chaos of dealing with these five wives simultaneously while trying to please them and win back his current wife Aboli.
The premise requires a suspension of disbelief, but the film aims to deliver a humorous take on the idea of karmic retribution and making amends for past transgressions in one’s relationships. The responsibility of fulfilling the remaining wishes of his past wives falls on Dhanush in his present life.
