This is one beautiful case which I always be proud of. Not of my accomplishment but why I love hypnosis and what keeps me doing this work.
Ms. T is a 58 year old female, a yoga instructor. T is amazingly pretty for her 58 years. With a healthy skin and a bubbly smile, her positive aura attracts everyone. I met her during my vipassana retreat which I did recently. At the last day of the session I told I do hypnosis and looking for volunteers. She said she would love to.
T belongs to South East Asia, but brought from her early age in USA. Around 20 years, she had a boyfriend, she got a movie offer, parted with her boyfriend amicably and move to LA. She acted in 3 movies. Then she became a singer and released 3 albums. Not married yet, but don’t have regrets about remaining unmarried.
The issue she wanted to resolve was her gluten allergy. she was eating veg and non-veg foods till 20. In mid 20s, she got motivated looking at her roommate’s radiant skin because of being vegetarian, and she left the meat. Till 40s everything went well. Around 40, she lost her voice. She can speak, but unable to sing and strains if she have to talk for a long time. Her voice became very hoarse. But the problem we wanted to address was in my mid 40s, she started throwing up for most of the foods. Allergy tests revealed a sensitivity to gluten. But she has been eating gluten from her birth. Medically nothing came out. Naturopathic doctors helped her to totally become nongluten and nondairy. Her problem is very few foods she can eat which she feels frustrating and restricting.
To be frank, I didn’t expect the story to be this simple without major cinematic effects. Asked her about her emotional states during mid 40s and what went. She said everything went well As a yoga instructor and good meditation practitioner she have maintained good health and mental status. I couldn’t disagree. Because it was evident from her smile and skin tone.
With clueless as usual (for most of the clients, that is my state), I just drifted her to a hypnotic state. Asked about few happy memories and relaxed her completely.
I asked her to imagine to stand before gluten rich foods (pasta and cookies, which she love) and asked her how she feels.
T: Imagine a soft, good smelling chocolate cookie in front of you. What do you feel?
C: I wanted to eat.
T: What is stopping you from eating?
C: They are not healthy.
T: What makes you think cookies are unhealthy?
C: Cookies are not healthy. Not good for your body.
T: You can eat one cookie in a month. It can’t be unhealthy.
C: But I am scared that it might make me to throw up.
T: Do you throw up often?
C: yes, whenever i eat cookie or a piece of pizza, i throw up and my tummy hurts.
T: Where is the fear stemming from?
C: In my head and stomach. As if there a conflict.
I don’t know where to go next…
T: Relax a little bit. T, I just want you to go to a place where you have felt the conflict between your your head and heart?.
C: I don’t understand.
T: Relax more. Just drift to a place where you feel conflict within yourself. Where your mind wants to do something, but your heart warns you about…Any incident where you are fighting between yourself…Like you see yourself as two and fighting against each other…Just relax…you can see as an image, incident or a thought…just go there and tell me what you see
C: I am in a scuba diving trip with my BF.
T: Very good. Where you diving?
C: In Australia. I am not a good swimmer. By BF is also not a good swimmer. Our scuba instructors is with us. She warns us of a bad tides on that particular day. But I am adamant of going scuba diving on that day
T: What makes you to do diving on that day, when you are don’t know swimming and instructor is warning you.
C: I am an explorer. I want to do adventures. I can’t be scared.
T: That is very good…What happened in the diving place?
C: The tides were big. The ship was shaky. We both went down to the diving. Then a big wave hit me hard. I lost control. Somehow the instructor pick me up and brought back me to the shore. After coming out of the ocean, I threw up and was holding the stomach. My tummy hurts badly.
T: Is the headache and tummy ache reminds you of the pain you feel when you eat gluten foods?
C: I guess so…
T: T, I want you to listen to me carefully. Your body is a temple. You are supposed to protect it carefully. Because without this body, you can’t function. You can’t risk your body more than it can handle. You can’t explore or take risk with this body as much as your mind wants to happen. Talk to your body gently…I am sorry for not taking care of you properly and putting you in risk. I will protect you. I will never risk you. Be gentle with your body and touch your head and tummy softly and be grateful and sorry for the incident.
Ms. T was confused. But she obeyed what I said.
This is exactly when the magic happened.
T: T, I want you to understand this concept. We have our body, brain and mind. What is yoga? Yoga is alignment, body, mind and soul being aligned to each other is called yoga. As a yoga teacher you know this principle, right?
She nodded her head.
T: Good. Usually when people encounter a situation, or a problem, it goes first to brain. Brain can’t handle any problem for more than 20 minutes. That is why scientist say, say what you have to say in 20 minutes. more than that, your brain will start drift away. So, the problem stays in brain for 20 minutes. If it finds solution within that 20 min, it is solved. Else, brain will throw that problem to your mind. Mind handles that problem for days. You have seen or heard when people overthinking a problem for years together…So this happens here. Some times the issue is not that important that the mind gets bored of the problem. So, what the mind does is, throw the problem to your body. Poor body stores all the unsolved problems of ours. What Yoga does is while doing the postures, it resolves the emotions associated with the problems and releases it. This helps in alignment of mind, body and soul.
During your scuba driving, your mind wants to be fearless explorer. While your brain wants to be scared as per instructors warning. With the conflict between mind and brain, you throw your body under the bus, meaning you put your body in risk. 3 elements. 2 elements fighting, you put the third element in risk. So, the third element is always in fear when the other 2 elements are fighting against each other.
While you eat a cookie, one says its yummy, while the other says its unhealthy. Body feels they too are fighting, now I am in danger (scuba diving incident) and it just shows up…
Now with this knowledge talk to your body. Ask for its forgiveness and say you will never put your body in risk.
C: I did…
T: Very good. Let me take you out of hypnosis slowly.
T came out of hypnosis. I told her to relax on that day and after a week, to do an experiment of tasting cookie. But for the entire week, to talk to her body gently as if it is a person and how you love your body and won’t put the body in risk.
She felt it funny, but said yes.
Even I wasn’t sure it will work. But that is what I told.
After a week, T messaged me that she tried eating cooking and nothing happened.
After a month, T messaged she could eat properly cookie and pizza whenever she can without throwing up or having a tummy ache.
What was the best part of this session is, be attentive to each and every word the client says. The word conflict was the reason behind the success.
Second, that divine intervention, when you are clueless and total surrender. People say that as intuition. But I would like to say as divine speaking through me.
I am not that good in understanding body, mind or soul…Or so attentive to pick up a word and make sense of scuba diving accident to gluten allergy.
Why I am saying is when the intention is good, and you surrender to the divine, it is so beautiful how things makes sense…
More than the client, I was so happy about this session.
I had a follow up session about she losing her voice. I had to wait for a month or two to see the improvement and then I will update the session.
What Dr. Venu said is true in his email…your intuition starts sharpening after few sessions. Exactly what to pick up and how to make sense…
