Session 1

Client History
Janani had a happy childhood; she is the elder child and she is very close to her mother. She was married at the age of 21 and has a daughter. She has a lot of difference of opinion with her husband, yet for therapy, she wanted to address a completely different issue first.
The issue she is most bothered about right now in her life is her extreme fear of hospitals and darkness. On hearing someone is admitted, she has strong physical reactions and has to immediately use the restroom. As she is ageing, she avoids going to the hospital (even if it is her own sister), she finds an excuse and helps the family by supporting at home when a family member is hospitalised.
She also has a lot of fear of the dark, in some houses she is not even able to sleep alone when left alone at night.
These two fears were what she wanted to address in the sessions.
Theme: Fear of being alone and Fear of hospitals
All sessions were done in Tamil (including induction), I have translated this whole script
Session 2
2 pm - 6 pm
Dave Elman induction, Progressive relaxation, garden of peace (beach), Tunnel of light taking a train
She drifted to sleep now and then, so had to take a break for 15 minutes, post this I started asking regular IMR
She was able to recollect some happy childhood memories about her parents, about her grandmother buying her a green silk frock at age 6. Interestingly, she also recollected her delivery (She was 22), saying her baby looked beautiful.
Other memories were of her younger sister being born, her father buying her a new red dress which had rabbits in it when she was 5 years old.
Session 3
10 am – 1 pm
Theme: Afraid of being alone in the dark
Dave Elman induction, Progressive relaxation, garden of peace (beach), Tunnel of light taking a train
T: What comes to your awareness?
C: I am in Hosur (her native place) during the day, if there is nobody, I feel lot of fear when my mother-in-law died
Even when father-in-law was there, I was never able to be in that house
T: As I count from 3 to 1, allow yourself to drift to the next moment where you felt this fear in this life
18 to 20 I was alone I would feel a lot of fear in the night, I will be even more careful
I wouldn’t be able to sleep the whole night
T: Alright, take a deep breath, relax your forehead, you are safe, we are just exploring these memories
T: As I count from 3 to 1, go to a memory in your childhood, where you felt this fear of the dark
C: I was very young in 4th standard I used to blink my eyes a lot so my teacher tied my eyes with both my plaits I was crying, I felt very afraid
Using affect bridge (took a few examples of fear of being alone in the dark, catapulting her to a past life where she had the same feeling)
T: Feel your feet, feel your hands
C: Very confused
T: It is okay, even if you feel it is an imagination, you can start talking, whatever comes to your awareness
(It took several minutes, and a lot of pauses, I repeated the questions gently a few times. her forehead was tensed, pain in her hip and calf muscle came up in several places through the session)
C: It is very dark some people are there
T: Where are you?
C: I am outside
T: What are you wearing?
C: fully covered
T: Is anyone with you?
C: I do not know anyone
T: What is the time now?
C: it is the night time
Nobody is there with me
T: How old are you?
C: I am 40 to 50
T: Go to your house as I count from 3 to 1
C: I don’t know where my house is
I don’t know where to go
I am very hungry I have not eaten anything
(Abreaction: Pain in the hip and calf muscle)
T: You are safe. Breathing deeply, feel the healing of the golden light in your hips and legs
T: As I count from 3 to 1, move to the next key event in that life
T: Where are you? Feel your surroundings and tell me
C: I don’t know
T: How old are you?

Calmed her down and took her through her last moments (With all her answers, it felt like the life of an abandoned child, and even in adult life, she appeared very sad and hungry, could not answer any questions)
As I count, 3 to 1, go to the end of that lifetime
T: What comes to your awareness?

After waking up, she felt a lot of gratitude for this life she has. She shuddered at the thought of sleeping in a beach in the night, and being homeless. And felt so safe and protected in this life.
She later revealed that the current house she was in, they were thinking of going to a bigger place, and now she had decided she will decorate this home better and all her problems about this house seemed silly to her now.
