This is my first case although the client did not go to previous lifetime but as Sir say, even 5 mins back is past. Hence, I focused on the issue and tried my best to relax the client and go with the flow.
Client details:
Female, age 38,
HR: 8/10
V/A/K: 6 / 7 / 2
Eye Roll Test: 3
Theme : Suppressed emotions
The client initially wanted to know the purpose of her life and during history taking she mentioned that she has already overcome the pain of loosing her father. She is a NLP practitioner herself and have experienced hypnosis earlier also. She is spiritual and kind hearted.
Although she reported that sometimes she has severe shoulder pain and the intensity of this pain was 8/10.
But she insisted that she wants to know the purpose of her life. But then she came to a conclusion that for this session the theme can be supressed emotions and eventually in other sessions we can move ahead with the purpose.
Session 1:
During the first session, Stage 1–6 were followed.
The primary focus was establishing rapport, initial relaxation, history taking and identifying potential emotional triggers
Session 2:
The second session began with Dave Elman followed by progressive relaxation.
The client was then guided through the tunnel of light visualisation, leading towards the garden.
However, during the visualisation of tunnel of light and the garden, the client began experiencing shoulder pain, which appeared to act as a resistance to deeper visualisation.
When I asked her to imagine the staircase leading to the garden, the she informed me regarding difficulty moving forward due to the increasing intensity of shoulder pain.
Because of this resistance, I decided to introduce an alternative visualisation pathway.
So, I asked her to imagine a Cliff, to bypass the resistance and guided her towards the cliff with safety handrails.
During history taking, the client had already mentioned that she had fear of heights, therefore I specifically mentioned that cliff has safety hand rails to create a safe environment in the visualisation.
I asked the client to imagine:
A cliff with strong handrails and a beautiful blue ocean below.
Since the client mentioned that she loves beach and ocean, this imagination and visual helped her feel safer and more comfortable progressing with the process.
At the cliff, I asked the client to imagine two boxes:
One bigger box for releasing past emotional burdens and
one smaller box for releasing future stress and anxiety.
Then, I guided the client to go back to the time from where the shoulder pain originated.
At this point the following interaction occurred.
T: What are you seeing?
C: I am seeing my father.
T: What feelings arise when you see your father now?
C: My father is lonely. He is all alone.
T: Is there anything you would like to say to him?
C: Yes. I want to say sorry.
T: Is there a specific reason you want to say sorry?
At this point the client became emotional and began crying.
C: I was not able to meet him during his last moments.
The client expressed deep guilt and anger (she told this to me after the session).
I told her to take her time, to release her emotions, to express whatever she wanted to say to her father.
I encouraged her to speak freely to her father as though he was present and listening.
The client expressed apology to her father, love toward him and hugged him.
She visualised hugging her father and kissing him on his forehead (informed me after the session).
T: What message does your father want to give you now?
C: I feel Papa is not angry with me. He appears to me like a guiding light.
At this point, the client cried deeply, which appeared to be a significant emotional release.
I asked her to focus on her breathing and tried to calm the emotional intensity.
T: Take your time until you feel ready to proceed.
After sometime the client signaled readiness using IMR.
I told her to thank her father and return to the cliff. I said that his love and guidance would always remain with her ( I may be wrong here but I just tried to go with the flow and tried to make her feel relaxed and comfortable)
Back at the cliff:
I asked her to place the guilt, anger, emotional pain, unresolved grief and whatever was bothering her into the bigger box.
She confirmed completion using IMR.
I again asked to go back to another time in her life from where the shoulder pain may have started or may have come.
She mentioned the following:
C: I am in my sister’s house garden.
T: Is anyone else there with you?
C: No, I am sitting alone.
T: What age are you?
C: 21.
T: What are you feeling?
C: I am sad.
She then shared that she had argued with her sister, who had scolded her for not focusing on her studies.
The client said she had responded rudely and was now feeling guilty about hurting her sister.
I again guided her to return to the cliff to release the associated emotions into the same bigger box.
She confirmed completion using IMR.
After that I asked her to hold the box and throw it into the ocean while ensuring that she feels safe because of the handrails.
Then I asked her to move ahead towards the smaller box, and asked her to release all her
future anxiety, work related stress, tension about upcoming responsibilities into that smaller box, while releasing these emotions, the client mentioned visualising herself in her office environment.
Once the box was filled, I asked her to throw that box into the ocean as well, symbolically releasing future stress.
She confirmed completion.
Closure of Session:
I asked her to go back to the garden as i count from 3 to 1.
I reminded her that this garden could always serve as a place of emotional safety and calm whenever she needed.
After that she chose to return to full awareness.
I counted 1 to 10, the client gradually returned to awareness and slowly opened her eyes.
Post-Session Feedback:
After returning to awareness, she shared her emotional experience.
She stated that she was able to hug her father, kiss his forehead and say “I love you” and “sorry”.
These were the actions she always wished she could do before his passing or before seeing him for the last time.
She expressed gratitude and reported feeling emotionally relieved.
Pain level immediately after the session:
Pain Level reduced from 8/10 to 3/10
Follow-Up:
One week later, the client contacted me and mentioned that:
The shoulder pain had completely disappeared.
My reflection
As a therapist, witnessing the client’s emotional release and the sense of closure she experienced was deeply meaningful. The session highlighted how suppressed emotions and unresolved grief can be a cause of physical pain and how regression can lead to both psychological relief and physical improvement.
A follow-up session is planned to address any remaining issue and help the client to know the purpose of her life.
Thankyou
