Guided Imagery intact yet no access: Is PLR Possible for elderly clients?

Client Profile:

  • SD/ Female
  • 70 years old.
  • VAK: 7/3/6
  • Hypnosis score: 7/10
  • Eye roll: 2/4
  • Pain level: 10/10 (chronic body pain, obesity, spine issues, BP, diabetes).
  • Life history: multiple bereavements (elder son, 2 sisters, son-in-laws, younger sister & brother-in-law, niece, parents), poverty in childhood, which was spent with maternal grandma, early age marriage along with a difficult mother-in-law, ongoing property dispute with son and so on.

Session Work (Total 3 sessions):

  • Inductions used: progressive relaxation, cosmic awareness, shower of light, healing garden, temple, staircase, cloud chariot, affect bridge.
  • She was able to imagine guided scenes clearly(temple, but no spontaneous past-life scenes or flashes emerged across 3 sessions. She could only see light or darkness.
  • Abreactions noted: headache, tingling, fidgeting, lips flickering, low voice.
  • Emotional release: cried after the session, but reported 10/10 pain even after sessions.

Further Work:

  • After 3 sessions without past-life access, I attempted trauma release:

    • Took her to a cliff visualisation with only 5 steps, where she could float and skip the stairs, as she was suffering from arthritis. She confirmed that she was able to put her sorrows in a box and throw them away.
    • Surrounded her with guru, higher self, and spirit guides in a protective circle to surrender her grief and physical pain. The temple was of her choice, as discussed, and she used to visit it daily. (She imagined them as forms of bright light)
    • When I suggested regular meditation, she showed no interest at all, so I didn’t suggest taking more sessions.

Observation:

  • She can visualise guided imagery but does not access spontaneous regression scenes.
  • The subconscious may be prioritising grief release over past-life exploration, but I didn’t feel successful.
  • Headache suddenly emerged in session 1 while visualisation. But it was gone until session 2.

So now the Question is:
In such cases:

  • Could we still help the client access past lives or healing only (if yes, how)?
  • If not, which age groups or client profiles are generally most suitable and effective beneficiaries of PLR?
